Build a Skerry Daysailer (42 hours)
The SkerryTM is that rare boat that combines excellent rowing and sailing qualities into one attractive craft. This is the perfect boat in which to mount an expedition in protected waters, cruising from beach to beach and camping on shore. The sprit rig is easy to handle, powerful for its size, and stows inside the hull for trailering. In this six-day course, each student will assemble a Skerry from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit. The hull utilizes CLC's patented LapStitch construction method in which stitch-and-glue techniques create lapstrake hulls of traditional appearance. The sailing rig is optional, but the class will proceed under the assumption that the boat will be used for both rowing and sailing. By noon on Saturday you'll have an assembled hull, ready for sanding and sailing rig. You'll learn advanced epoxy techniques, basic marine carpentry, and an overview of what will be required to get the boat rigged and sailing. Mon. – Sat., Jul. 14 – 19; 8am- 4pm - $1195 for Rowing Kit, $975 for Sailing Components; $695 for Instruction. (Note: Please register by phone for this course. Call John Freer at 401-848-5777 x203.)
