The IYRS Maritime Research Library is just about finished, but it's now open for business.
One of the lesser known treasures of IYRS is the newly opened Maritime Research Library on the top floor of the mill building. The Fall issue of Restoration Quarterly has a good article about the library and should be available on the IYRS website soon.
In the meantime, here are a few photos to give you a taste of what you will find if you come visit.
Jill is our reference librarian

and she has the enviable qualities of being both friendly and professional. She knows what we have in our collections and if we don't have it, she knows how to get it.
There are complete collections of many classic periodicals such as Yachting

and The Rudder.

We've had many generous donors in years past, and their gifts have ranged from beautiful coffee table books

to books on navigation, boat design, racing history, cruising tales… and much more.

The space is open and light, and soon we'll have more comfortable chairs for relaxed study.

We have 4 brand new Mac workstations

with a large format printer and flatbed scanner.
We also have a number of ships' plans and drawings that are still being cataloged.

The library is open to students and the general public for research.
The hours are
Tues - Thurs, Noon - 7
Friday, Noon - 5
Sat, 10 - 1 You can also call to set up an appointment if you need to come in at other hours. Our number is (401) 848-5777 x221
