Winter-Spring Events / IYRS and the Museum of Yachting

February 9, 2012: IYRS & Museum of Yachting Book Club / 7 pm
IYRS Newport Campus (Aquidneck Mill Building/Library, 449 Thames Street/4th Floor, Newport, RI)
The first meeting of the IYRS & Museum of Yachting Book Club--which was started for individuals interested in reading salty yarns and discussing them amongst fellow sailors--takes place on the evening of Thursday, February 9. The first book is A Voyage for Madmen by Peter Nichols, an account of the 1968 Golden Globe. In this singlehanded, solo, non-stop race around the world, nine sailors left England in small sailboats navigating by sextant and paper chart to accomplish what many considered an ultimate test; only one sailor finished the race. Subsequent book choices will be voted on by participants. Those planning to participate should RSVP to Jay Picotte, Museum of Yachting Curator (401-848-5777 x222 / jpicotte@moy.org).
