On Saturday, July 11, supporters and fans of IYRS will flock to the campus for the 12th Annual Summer Gala sponsored by Land Rover North America. The festive evening, "A Night Under the Stars," is the school's largest fundraiser of the year. But this year's Gala also marks a school milestone: the completion of the restoration of the 1831 Aquidneck Mill building. In keeping, gala-goers will celebrate on campus, under a tent placed in the shadow of the historic Mill.

On May 14, when IYRS celebrates the official opening of the newly restored 1831 Aquidneck Mill building, the ceremony will mark more than a crowning addition to the school's waterfront campus: this historic building will also play a broader role in the surrounding community. The ceremony begins at the school's campus at 11 am.
IYRS will unveil its new Marine Systems Training Facility in Bristol on Saturday, March 28, at the official opening of the Franklin Street Marine Corridor. On Saturday, February 28, IYRS will give job seekers troubled by headlines of high unemployment and a sluggish economy a powerful tool: information. On the 28th, the school will host the Fourth Annual Marine Industry Career Day. Marine companies from throughout New England will be attending.
An evening career information session hosted by IYRS on January 8 will give individuals a chance to learn about training and career opportunities in the marine industry from area employers.
The IYRS Marine Systems facility in Bristol (257 Franklin Street) will be part of Rhode Island Marine Trades Day on Saturday, October 25. More than 20 firms in the East Bay area will offer tours to introduce the boating industry to local and State officials, neighbors, business partners and associates, people interested in marine industry careers and training opportunities, and the general public. The Annual Summer Gala at IYRS, sponsored by Lexus, celebrated "A New Launch"--the joining of IYRS and the Museum of Yachting. By evening's end, it was, "...clear that the community embraces the convergence," said Carol O'Malley, who co-chaired the event with Joe Dockery: the event raised $660,000 for the school and the Museum.
The visit of U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) to IYRS on April 28 marked a milestone for the restoration of the 1831 Aquidneck Mill Building. Federal funding secured by Senators Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), announced in a press conference at IYRS on April 28, will help fund the restoration of the mill and the revitalization of the "working waterfront" along Lower Thames Street.
