Sun, brilliant blue skies, and northerly breezes that ranged from 7 knots to a roiling 15 created a stunning backdrop to showcase the fleet racing the 30th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta sponsored by Panerai and presented by Land Rover North America. Hosted September 4-6 by the Museum of Yachting, this annual regatta drew sailors from North America, Europe and New Zealand. August 25, 2009: 30th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta Sponsored by Panerai and Presented by Land Rover North America

The Museum of Yachting will host the 30th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta sponsored by Panerai and presented by Land Rover North America from September 4-6. To mark the 30th running of this classic Newport event, regatta organizers and sponsors have included events so Rhode Islanders, Newport visitors, and other classic-boat enthusiasts can enjoy the regatta's festivities over the Labor Day weekend. June 19, 2009 — Museum Launches Curator Tours in July

Starting in July, visitors to the Museum of Yachting will have an opportunity to tour the museum's three summer exhibits with curator Jay Picotte on Wednesday afternoons. The Wednesday tours will run for seven weeks, starting on July 1 and ending on August 12. For more details, click the link above.

May 1, 2009: Museum Exhibits Open on May 16

September 3, 2008: Ted Hood's Robin Tops Fleet at 29th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta

Ted Hood and his 1958-launched Robin--a 50-year-old boat he designed himself that many credit as the launching pad of his illustrious yacht-design career--topped the 63-boat fleet at the 29th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta, sponsored by Panerai and presented by Best Life. Racing on the opening day of the regatta was cancelled after a long postponement on windless waters shrouded in fog and a drizzle of rain, but conditions on Sunday were ideal, with  a teen-strength northerly and clear blue skies.

August 20, 2008: 29th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta Held August 30-31

The 29th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta, sponsored by Panerai and presented by Best Life, will draw a showcase of majestic classic yachts and traditional one-designs to Newport. The fleet will mix restored classics with "spirit of tradition" yachts that are of contemporary build but classic design.

July 16, 2008: Annual Summer Gala Raises Record Sum

The Annual Summer Gala at IYRS, sponsored by Lexus, celebrated "A New Launch"--the joining of the Museum of Yachting and the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS). By evening's end, it was, "...clear that the community embraces the convergence," said Carol O'Malley, who co-chaired the event with Joe Dockery: the event raised $660,000 for the school and the Museum.

July 8, 2008: Winners Crowned at Robert H. Tiedemann Regatta Sponsored by Panerai

After two days of festivities and light-air racing, winners were crowned at the Robert H. Tiedemann Regatta sponsored by Panerai. The two-day event was a tribute to the late Bob Tiedemann, who cut a monumental profile in the world of classic boats. Sail Newport managed racing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (July 5-6). A total of some 40 boats participated in the festivities, which also included a Parade of Boats.
 

June 26, 2008: Robert H. Tiedemann Regatta Sponsored by Panerai Runs July 5-6

The Third Annual Robert H. Tiedemann Regatta sponsored by Panerai, which takes place in Newport on July 5-6, will celebrate the memory of the late Bob Tiedemann--whose passion for classic watercraft led him to rescue a substantial number of historic vessels. This year the Museum of Yachting has combined the regatta with holiday festivities for the public.

June 24, 2008: Annual Summer Gala Celebrates "A New Launch"

On July 12, the Annual Summer Gala sponsored by Lexus returns to the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) with two reasons to celebrate: namely, IYRS and the Museum of Yachting. The theme of the gala, "A New Launch," celebrates the convergence of IYRS and the Museum, and takes place at IYRS Restoration Hall.

May 8, 2008: IYRS Launch Day, MOY Opening Day on May 31

On the morning of the Saturday, May 31st, IYRS marks graduation by launching the fleet of wooden classics restored by students this year. That afternoon, the festivities move across the harbor to opening day at the Museum of Yachting, when the public gets its first glimpse at new exhibitions that will run throughout the summer. This May Saturday kicks off a summer of coordinating events at IYRS and the museum. 

April 28, 2008: The Aquidneck Mill Building Restoration

The visit of U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) to IYRS on April 28 marked a milestone for the restoration of the IYRS Aquidneck Mill Building, which when complete will house a satellite location for the museum. Federal funding secured by Senators Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), announced in a press conference at IYRS on April 28, will help fund the restoration of the mill and the revitalization of the "working waterfront" along Lower Thames Street. May 30, 2007: IYRS and The Museum of Yachting Take First Step toward a Convergence

Following over a year of discussions, the Boards of both organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines a structure for bringing these two Newport nonprofits together.

December 4, 2006: IYRS Announces Agreement to Restore Historic Coronet

IYRS has reached an agreement with Robert McNeil of Coronet Restoration Partners that will result in the restoration of the historic schooner yacht Coronet. An official signing ceremony will be held on December 13.
