IYRS Career Counseling and Placement

IYRS offers a range of services and programs to help students develop career plans, find internships and jobs: career counseling, job and internship listings, resume preparation, interviewing tips, and more. Emphasis is placed on providing students with job seeking skills. In addition, over the course of the school year, a series of events including field trips, lectures and presentations are scheduled to provide students with opportunities to learn more about companies, current projects and work environments.

Students enrolled in full-time IYRS programs have access to information about national and international companies who enquire about our students and alumni by contacting the Director of Student and Industry Relations.

Student and Career Services Calendar

September: Orientation Day - A half-day session for new and returning IYRS students with an overview of the upcoming year, introductions of the instructors and staff, presentations by alumni, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, students will split into their specific programs for a more specific orientation.

October: Career Counseling Assessment Sessions to discuss individual career goals, career preparedness, and objectives.

December: Resume Writing Workshop on building a professional personal resume.

January: Career Counseling Sessions to discuss career opportunities, personal presentation skills, and compensation packages.

February: Job Interview Workshop on today’s recruiting and hiring technologies, professional networking, and effective interviewing.

March: Annual IYRS Marine Trades Career Day - Employers from the marine trades industry are invited to attend a one day event to promote career opportunities, and recruit skilled candidates for hire. The first part of the day is open only to IYRS students and alumni.
