Scholarships
Each year, 40% of IYRS students count on scholarship support to fund their education at IYRS. Donors may contribute to the Joyce Selig Scholarship Fund which provides current-year support to IYRS students based on financial need. IYRS also encourages donations to endowed funds, which pay out a percentage each year to guarantee scholarship funding in perpetuity.
Program Development
Investment in educational programming is an cornerstone constant to ensure that IYRS maintains it's deep craft-based approach to education marine trades professionals. This takes several key forms, including ongoing investment in equipment, training materialdel facilities, and tools. Additionally, in partnership with the school's industry councils, IYRS employs a continuous improvement methodology focused on curricula and delivery methods. With rapid changes in technology that impact some of IYRS' programs, it is vital that capital be available to keep pace with industry needs.
Building and Grounds
IYRS' extraordinary main campus is comprised of two historic structures, including the Aquidneck mill building, built in 1831and on the National Register of Historic Places, and Restoration Hall, built in1903 and part of Newport's working waterfront heritage. The school also maintains a commercial marina, largely dedicated to historic boats. Regular maintenance and upgrades are an important part of ensuring the integrity of the combined IYRS campus experience--both for the students and the thousands of visitors that make IYRS a destination site.
